Campfire and Huntsman
Having peeled myself off the fake leather floor of the manga café room I’d slept in, I had a shower and headed back out into Tokyo for a walk before catching the train back out to Chiba to spend the evening with Luke and Betsan again.
I arrived just as they were making a campfire outside Luke’s lodge. It was Betsan’s last night, so a couple of the neighbours came by and sat with us for a few hours. On the outside wall of Luke’s house, we spotted easily the biggest spider I’ve ever seen – we’re pretty sure it was a pregnant huntsman (see photo below). Apparently harmless to humans, but I’d still rather not have it crawling over me in my sleep.
It seems like a really nice community around there, and definitely a different pace of life compared to Tokyo—or any city, really. I wouldn’t mind retiring somewhere similar when I’m older.
We called it a night around midnight, and I stayed on the surprisingly comfy spare futon again.
Coincidentally, Betsan and I are both heading towards Tokyo tomorrow. I’m carrying on a bit further to Izu, so I’ll drop her off on the way.
