Chiba Coast Drive

Chiba Coast Drive

The sun was shining when I woke up, and the van was far too hot for a lie-in, so I got up and hit the road for a couple of hours, stopping along the way for some breakfast at a 7-Eleven.
I was aiming for the southern part of the Chiba Peninsula, following the coast down, as it looked like that’s where the best surf was, along with a few surf rental shops. As I was driving, the weather seemed too nice not to pull over for a swim and a chill on the beach for a few hours. I found an empty car park and decided to do a quick workout as well – I’ve not really been finding the time to exercise since leaving Niseko, so this felt like a good chance to go for a run and knock out some push-ups (about the extent of my workouts without a gym – feel free to get in touch if you’re a personal trainer 😉).
After a swim in the sea to cool off, I read my book and sunbathed for an hour or so before carrying on down the coast.
I also stopped off at a Patagonia outlet store and spent some money I definitely don’t have on new shorts, a cap, and a T-shirt.
The last part of today’s drive took me down to a restaurant called Ragtime, which overlooks Hebara Beach. I arrived just in time for sunset and had dinner with a couple of beers while enjoying the view, before walking back to the beach car park and the van for the night.
Surfing tomorrow, then catching up with Betsan the day after – another friend from Niseko.

Wanted to know why Kirin had ties to Germany so asked ChatGPT - German brewers played a key role in helping Kirin establish its beer production in Japan. In the late 19th century, German brewer Franz E. Rauch was hired to oversee operations at the Spring Valley Brewery in Yokohama—Japan’s first brewery using Western methods. When Kirin took over the brewery in 1885, it continued using German brewing techniques and even imported German equipment and ingredients. This early influence laid the foundation for Kirin’s success and helped shape the flavour and style of Japanese beer.
In my defence they were all on discount
