Nothing Like the Open Road

Nothing Like the Open Road

Woke up a bit later this morning after staying up for the F1 last night – it was a pretty decent race, so definitely worth it. The sun was shining all day today, which made for a much more pleasant drive than yesterday.

I think I’m at my most relaxed when the sun’s out, I’m driving along a scenic road, and I’ve got some good music playing – there’s not much else like it. I took the old coastal road, which hugs the coastline much more closely. There’s a newer, faster expressway that cuts straight through the mountains along the north coast of Japan, but I didn’t fancy spending the whole day in tunnels when the sun was out and there was a chance of catching an ocean view.

I stopped off a couple of times to stretch my legs and take in the scenery. The sea was calm, and as the sun began to dip towards the horizon, I could tell the sunset was going to be a good one. I kept driving until it looked like it was just about to set, then pulled over and found a perfect spot to watch it from. The photos below don’t quite do it justice, but it was definitely one of the top five I’ve ever seen.

Such a beautiful part of Japan.
